Research for Development's mission is to promote the social welfare through research on disease control and prevention, education and health programs, and economic development initiatives.
Our Lab Activities focus on conducting research to advance scientific understanding. We perform various tests and analyze samples. Our work aims to improve medical knowledge and contribute to better health outcomes through careful and accurate research.
Multiplex high risk HPV genotypes by fluorescent isothermal detection system using Atila Biosystem platform (AmpFire): Detection of 2 low-risk and 15 high-risk HPV (6,11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68) for MSM and HPV Vaccine effectiveness studies.
Next Generation Sequencing using MINISEQ from Illumina platform. Acquired the equipment by the end of 2021 and got different trainings: Sequencing for COVID-19 at RBC/NRL (2022) and for Microbiome (2022 & 2023).
Using Freezerworks sample management system and Globus, different samples can be managed and tracked online.Specimen repository is for all the studies under U54 (Cervical cancer Screening, MSM, HPV Vaccine effectiveness) and under Central Africa IeDEA (Sentinel Research Network (SRN), Adolescent and Young Adult Network of IeDEA (AYANI), HIV-1 subtype-specific drug resistance in patients failing dolutegravir-based first-line, second-line or third-line regimens (DTG)).
Our Clinical Field Activities focus on conducting research and collecting data directly in communities. We work closely with local healthcare providers and participants to gather valuable health information, observe trends, and study various health conditions. This hands-on approach helps us understand real-world health challenges, improve care, and contribute to advancing medical knowledge.
Nurses play a key role in conducting screening for research purposes. As part of the research team, they are responsible for preparing and educating participants, ensuring informed consent, and collecting samples in a safe and respectful manner.
Our doctor performs colposcopy procedures to closely examine the cervix and vagina for signs of disease. Using a special magnifying instrument called a colposcope, the doctor carefully inspects the areas for any unusual cells or abnormalities. If needed, the doctor may take small tissue samples (biopsies) for further analysis.
Our doctor provides thorough follow-up care to ensure that the treatment outcomes are effective and the patient’s health is properly monitored. Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled to track progress, assess response to the treatment and make any modifications as needed. The doctor works closely with the patient to ensure that they receive continuous care and support, ensuring the best possible long-term health outcomes.
We ensure that the data is accurate, consistent and organized. After collection, the data is securely stored, analyzed and managed to help drive research insights, support conclusions and maintain integrity throughout the study. Our approach ensures that data is accessible, reliable and protected for future use in research.
A paper-based data collection process is transitioning to the OpenMRS system to improve data management and streamline research efforts.
